Quick and Easy Room Updates

Here are some tips for quick and easy room updates to help you revamp a room that’s looking a bit tired or dated, some of them might seem a bit simple or obvious but they really do help!

Try to see your room through the eyes of a stranger. Imagine an estate agent is coming to value your house. What areas would you need to change? These are most likely to be:

  1. Tidy up and declutter! Do you really need all that stuff? Have a good clear out and think up some clever storage solutions, baskets for toys, remote controls, dvds, game consoles etc. These are well placed on the bottom of a shelf unit if you have one. Ikea is a good source of storage or Ebay. Measure your shelf and try to get matching baskets or boxes to fit the space.
  2. Clean! Take a close look at your paintwork and floor, it may only need a wipe over to look as good as new. Touch up any scratched or dented paintwork with leftover or matched paint.
  3. Are you making the best use of the space? Try rearranging the furniture to see if it works better. Sometimes this is enough to make it feel like a new room!
  4. Never underestimate the power of new cushions! These are a relatively inexpensive way to update a room or introduce a new colour. If your scheme is fairly neutral then this may be all you need to add.
  5. If your budget stretches a bit further then consider coordinating some lamp shades with your cushions and perhaps a rug or new curtains.

I’ve mentioned Ikea and Ebay as good sources of reasonably priced items. I would also look at Dunelm Mill, Homesense (the home version of TKMaxx), B&Q, plus don’t discount the supermarkets, Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s all have great home products at good prices. I also like H&M online for their really funky, inexpensive but very stylish homeware.
