August

We are now well into the school holidays and perhaps a trip abroad beckons? Preparing for foreign climes can be stressful, especially if you have children. We all want to create some great memories whilst also having a good time!

Whether you are heading overseas or staying at home, this month is about creating those memories…things to do, photos, planning. I took the photo above last year on Formby beach, a fantastic day that cost nothing but hopefully my kids remember! Enjoy August and do share any stories!

After spending a lovely day at the beach (West Kirby) with my son and his friends, we arrived back with only 30 minutes before football practice. A mad panic ensued to get tea on the table, I’d planned to cook Spaghetti Bolognese but I like to let this cook slowly so instead went for my old favourite- Spaghetti and Tomato Sauce. It’s really quick and easy to make and you should have all the ingredients in your fridge/store cupboard. Take a look at the recipe for Caroline’s Tomato Sauce.

As always after a holiday, I came back to a chaotic bedroom with clothes everywhere! This has prompted a massive clear out and I’m now feeling very calm and zen like, it’s like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Clutter and mess can make your spaces feel smaller than they really are but there are some tricks you can employ to make your home feel more spacious. Small Space Solutions can help…

Back from another week’s holiday, this time an active one in the French Alps. Day 2 and the kids are already bored! Without exception this leads to snacking in our house so I need to get myself prepared with some healthy snacks, hopefully this post will give you some ideas you can use yourself…..Healthy eating for Kids- Snacks.

 Smart snacking.

I’ve been out of the country for a week, on holiday and I don’t know about you but I never know what to cook for the first meal back. I feel like  it has to be better than beans on toast (although that may be what you crave!) but it also has to be quick and easy to cook. My first choice this time was Jamie Oliver’s Asian Sea Bass. I dragged my 10 year old to the supermarket for the ingredients and we spent an enjoyable time looking for the non standard items needed (plus the usual bribes!).

Do you need some help with your holiday packing? I know I do! I will be feeling a lot happier now that I have “Holiday Packing” to refer to. Hopefully it will save me from the dreaded sleepless night prior to travel!
