Home Made Ice Lollies

watermelon ice lollies

Home made ice lollies are so easy to make, the kids can help you make them (which seems to make them more attractive to eat!) and you can put really healthy ingredients into them. I think that’s a win win win situation!

There are endless recipes and combinations from basic fruit juices (apple, orange etc) to multi ingredient smoothies. You can use old mini yogurt pots, ice trays for mini ice lollies, or buy moulds (Amazon have a good selection of moulds and sticks). Here are some recipe ideas.

  • Watermelon

Cut up a watermelon, remove seeds and blend, pour into moulds and freeze.

  • Chocolate
Mix cocoa powder with milk to make a paste, add sugar to taste, more milk until blended then pour into moulds and freeze. Or you could use ready made chocolate milk.
~
  • Banana
In a blender place a banana and add milk to make a loose consistency (you could use soya milk if lactose intolerant), blend and freeze.
~
  •  Frozen Yogurt
Take the lid off a yogurt, add a stick and freeze!
~
  • Custard
This is a great idea taken from the fabulous “Crumbs” blog. Simply freeze ready made custard. My kids love custard so this is sure to go down well!
~
  • Lemonade

You can either use bought lemonade or make your own, my kids love making their own lemonade, you can find the recipe here. Of course you can use any fizzy drinks, just check the ingredients first!

  •  Annabel Karmel’s Traffic Light Lollies
A fabulous recipe using strawberry, peach and kiwi fruits to give the red, yellow, green colours of traffic lights, click here for the recipe.

I hope that’s given you a few ideas, of course you could also make some grown up versions too, Pimms, gin and tonic, cider, pina colada, the options and fun are endless!
