Living in the UK is not really conducive to having a pool, an outdoor pool may only get used a few weeks of the year and when the sun does shine you would really like to take the roof off an indoor pool!
But when the sun shines for weeks on end as it is now, how we wish we had a pool! The next best thing is to get invited to a friends house with a pool. Or failing that, how about these inspirational pool houses? We can dream….
1. Greek revival in the Connecticut countryside.
Symmetrical pergolas add outdoor wings to this classical pool house by Crisp Architects. This architectural trick expands the pool house’s proportions to the right scale for this landscape.
2. Classic proportions outside Atlanta.
This brick pool house’s symmetry and centred siting behind the pool, anchor the entire poolscape in the backyard. The house was a collaboration between architect Cynthia Karegeannes, interior designer Beth Weltlich and contractor Innovative Construction.
3. Modern Gothic in Nashville.
Believe it or not, this elegant building is actually quite waterproof and childproof. “Most fabrics in the pool house are Perennials fabric (indoor/outdoor), which was important so that guests can sit down on the furnishings with wet bathing suits. The floors are epoxy floors, impervious to staining and scratches.”
4. Minimalist pavilion in a dazzling Australian backyard.
This stunning contemporary landscape by Rolling Stones Landscapes incorporates a contemporary pavilion that blurs the lines between inside and out.
The pavilion provides shade and comfort during the day, and there’s a cozy glow at night via the outdoor fireplace.
5. Louvred Pavilion in Lakeside setting
Similar to the previous example is the aptly named Louvred Poolhouse by Ike Kligerman Barkley. While a flat roof is eschewed in favour of a gable, in execution it is quite modern.
Up close it’s apparent that the louvres wrap all the walls, stopping where doors provide access between inside and outside.
6. Modern Pavilion in Texas
By Steinbomer, Bramwell & Vrazel, the Tarrytown Pavilion is located on the property of a midcentury-modern house. It serves as a pool house and also as an office, a gallery and a guesthouse. From this perspective, the main features of the structure are evident: L-shape white walls, glass walls opening toward the pool and a floating flat roof perched upon an off-center core.
7. Buenos Aires Retreat.
A super modern and stylish indoor/outdoor pool makes this space usable all year round, regardless of the weather. The water connects with the lake, drawing the eye out and the pebbles add a nice texture contrast – an indoor beach.
