I’m always on the lookout for new ways to use the tons of Lavender which grows in my garden. This is an idea I picked up from Pinterest last year and I’ve eventually got around to making it myself! This would make a lovely wedding posy for bridesmaids, or just hang a bouquet in your home for the fabulous fragrance. For more ideas on how to use lavender, please take a look at my Pinterest Board.
Here’s a photo of my lavender:
To make your own Lavender Bouquet you will first need to cut some stems of Lavender. Try to cut them as long as possible.
You will probably need around 50 stems.
For my bouquet, I decided to use some pretty cream lace which I’ve had forever, a huge roll of it has been hanging around just waiting to be put to good use! You could use a pretty ribbon, maybe in a contrasting colour:
Firstly, you need to trim the Lavender so that the stems are roughly the same length. If you are making a posy for bridesmaids then I would cut the stems much shorter:
Secondly, lay the lavender out in a row and divide into small bunches of 5 stems:
You will need to cut a length of lace or ribbon long enough to weave in and out several times. I laid out the lace to measure the amount I needed:
Once you have cut the correct length, wind the lace or ribbon into a manageable ball for weaving:
Now you are ready to start weaving, pass the lace in front then behind each bunch of Lavender stems, alternating until you reach the end of a row then returning the other way:
Continue adding rows but stop before you reach the end of the stems, leave a gap at the bottom to tie the bouquet together. I secured the ends of the lace with a small Lavender stem:
To create the bouquet, roll the stems up and secure as before:
Once rolled, cut another piece of lace or ribbon and tie the stems together with a bow:
If you are going to hang your bouquet, add a final piece of lace or ribbon through the back of the bow and tie to create a loop. Finally, hang up your bouquet and admire!:
