October is the month for harvests: apples and pears, plums and damsons, lavender and sunflowers (some craft ideas to come!). As the days draw in and the leaves change colour it’s time for packing away the summer and looking forward to cosy nights in, Halloween parties and comfort food!
This week is Halloween and next weekend will be all about Bonfires and Fireworks , are you having a party? I have some great food ideas for treating your guests, how about a cup of Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Soup? I had the greatest compliment ever when my friend’s daughter asked if I could “Please, please make that lovely soup again!”
A recipe for the weekend, Moro’s Tuna Oloroso, a fabulously rich and warming recipe from the famous Moro restaurant in London, run by Sam and Sam Clark. Serve with another of their recipes: Mashed Potato with Garlic, fabulous!
Halloween is creeping up on us, are you having a party, going trick or treating with the kids? Take a look at my Halloween Ideas to get you started…
There are plenty of Mid-Season sales around at the moment with some really good reductions, here’s my favourites:
Plus Clarins have got a fabulous limited edition offer, only available through select affiliates, spend £40 and you will receive a Pamper Kit worth £23 absolutely free! This is only available until the 7th November. See the button on the right for more details.
I don’t know about you but I find choosing outfits really hard when the seasons change. Autumn is challenging because the day can start off really cold and then warm up (or your home/office is too warm!) I found some great ideas for Autumn/Fall outfits on Pinterest, take a look at my board….
As the nights draw in, I want some comfort food which is easy to prepare and which the whole family will love. As usual I turn to Fay Ripley’s excellent book “Fay’s Family Food”, fantastic recipes for all ages. I have adapted her One-Pot Lemon Chicken recipe slightly to use my favourite short grain brown rice, delicious!
It’s time to harvest my lavender, quite time consuming with about 30 large plants! I love the smell, harvesting the flowers releases all the oils and I will be completely chilled out by the end. If you have some lavender plants why not take a look at my post on ideas for using lavender flowers.
It’s the weekend and time for a treat, how about making your own pizza? It’s really easy using ready made pizza dough and tastes amazing, the kids will love making them and everyone will enjoy eating them!
On long Autumn walks, kicking up leaves, you may unearth a few treasures which you can use to decorate your home. My Pinterest board- Autumn/Fall DIY Decorations has some great ideas:
The fabulous Anthropologie Store has added several more labels to its range including the wonderful Maison Scotch. This stylish Dutch label has the most wonderful cosy coats and knits.
